Mr. and Mrs. Mittag - 10.25.25

Life is funny sometimes. You hear about the butterfly effect… one tiny action creates a ripple that changes future parts of your life. Believe it or not, photographing this wedding was a result of my husband sitting between two people in college. Those two people ended up getting married ten years ago, and it was the first wedding he ever helped me photograph. Fast forward to last weekend… the bride of this wedding was (and still is!) the BFF of the bride of that wedding.

Kim, like myself, is a teacher. Because of this, I knew exactly how she was feeling the past few weeks. Granted… what sane teacher gets married at the end of October? (lol) Despite the chaos and frustration of this time of year, she planned an absolutely beautiful wedding.

To know Kim is to love her. She’s quirky in the best ways and knows how to have so much fun. I was not surprised in the least that there were moments of sillyness intertwined with the seriousness. I also GREATLY appreciated that she created a portable photo booth out of the yellow frame on Monica and Rachel’s door on Friends.

These two lovebirds have been together since early 2019 so I know I’m not alone when I say “it’s about dang time!” Josh and Kim tied the knot.

The end of October is always a bit of a crapshoot with Wisconsin weather. Despite the on and off rain and chilly temps, this new married couple had a wonderful day. I absolutely loved that their pastor made a point to pray over each of them with their loved ones prior to the ceremony. The ceremony itself was full of love and laughter, much like the two of them.

Afterwards, we headed to Warm Belly Farm which has all sorts of fall fun including a pumpkin patch, a corn maze, and ADORABLE ANIMALS! Our bride, who previously studied abroad in Australia, got to hold a wallaby! She was definitely in heaven. I (unfortunately) failed in convincing them to take home one of the cute corgis. We meandered around the farm a bit for some cute photo ops, and the new Mr. and Mrs. even shared some cotton candy.

Much fun was had at the reception. The kids in attendance (and some adults) decided to race back and forth with the battery powered candles on their heads. Once dancing was underway, the light-up sticks were a huge hit. There was an abundance of sword fights as well as swinging them around to the music.

Our couple decided to honor both sets of parents, giving each their own spotlight dance in addition to the traditional bride + groom, bride + dad, and groom + mom dances. It was really sweet!

I know I speak for everyone in wishing Josh and Kim a long and beautiful life together!
