Mr. and Mrs. Ries - 9.16.23

Fall wedding season was kicked off last weekend with the nuptials of David and Amanda. After meeting them for the first time last fall for their engagement session, I could already tell how perfect they were for one another.

David and Amanda met online and went on their first date after a week of non-stop conversation. One event that truly solidified their feeling of “forever” was when David was hurt skiing and got a concussion. They BOTH referenced this event in knowing that they wanted to get married one day. For David, he was moved by how much she took care of him and helped him feel better. For Amanda, this situation showed her that she always wanted to be the one to take care of David.

When I asked Amanda what she loves most about David, she commented on how whole-hearted he is and that he “does everything with intention and commitment.” For David, it’s her sweetness that he loves the most. He admires that “everything she does is in service” to others in her life.

Their wedding day had some amazing weather (minus a small touch of rain during dinner, but more on that later). They were married at St. Michael’s in Stillwater Minnesota. GUYS. THIS CHURCH IS STUNNING. I am such a sucker for a wedding in a gorgeous church.

After the ceremony, we loaded up into a trolley (!) and galavanted around town to some different photo spots with the bridal party. Our final stop before the reception was to the nursing home where Amanda’s grandma lives for a short visit. It was a short but extremely sweet visit and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me cry (or everyone else for that matter).

It is often my tradition during dinner to scope out a perfect sunset location with the help of a sun-tracker app on my phone. My second shooter and I hopped on a golf cart to check things out when it suddenly (and randomly) started raining. Despite the rain, there was also some sun, which resulted in a TRIPLE rainbow over the golf course! I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a triple rainbow in my life… that has to be good luck for our newlyweds, right?

Thankfully the clouds completely parted and we were able to get some gorgeous sunset photos before Amanda and David came back in to dance the night away with their friends and family.

The day was full of love, laughter, and the occasional dirty joke from the bridal party (if you know, you know lol). I was honored to be the one to capture it!
